I got sober at Step Two South when I was 15. I struggled with drugs and alcohol for a few years and many various issues that come along with that. When I entered Step Two South I was across the country from my home in Colorado and terrified of what was in store for me. Would I hate it there? Would people be nice? Would I want to come home? Would it really work for me and would I be able to get sober? Within the first week of my time there I knew that I was in the safest place in the world. I felt comfortable to be myself for the first time in years. I cannot describe the environment that was provided for me accurately. For awhile I just thought that Step Two was magic, I laughed harder than I ever had and felt safe enough to cry whenever I needed to. Thinking back on my experience at Step Two I realize that it was magical. Step Two provided a place for me as a rebellious teenager, to be exactly who I was and they embraced me and loved me for it. Thanks to the wonderful staff, the beautiful country house, and the rides to and from IOP, I was given the magic of true patience, love and fun. Step Two taught me that being sober could be fun, and that I was worth being loved for who I was. Every night we read out of a book by Og Mandino, and a passage that still sticks to me to this day is “Imitate no one. Be yourself. Show your rarity to the world and they will shower you with gold.” Step Two gave that to me and I am forever grateful for my 45 days that I spent there. I would recommend Step Two to anyone who wants to get the best shot at staying sober, and any parent who wants to give that to their child. Today I am 21 years old, and I will have 6 years sober on December 22nd, the exact day I entered Step Two 6 years ago.
